10 Independent Learning Platforms Better Than Outschool

If you are a homeschooling, unschooling, worldschooling, or even traditional schooling parent, chances are you’ve heard of Outschool. This is the popular platform offering thousands of online classes for kids in every subject imaginable. Outschool has been a go-to resource for many families and has definitely made its place in the online space.
But lately, I’ve seen a growing question in homeschool communities:
👉 “What are the best Outschool alternatives?”
I started teaching online in 2012 when I was preparing for my first child. At the time, I taught moms photography using pop-up Facebook groups. No one was really teaching courses online then, and if they were ... I didn't know how to find them. I certainly didn't know what I know now.
When I started homeschooling my first child, I was looking online for online courses for her to interact with other kids. My thought was, she'd learn in class with other children and then I could expand on that without screens. Unfortunately, didn't really find much.
Here we are, many years later and three more kids and it's become a lot more popular since Covid! I know Outschool got popular during Covid. There's been so many articles about their phenomenal growth. But that leads me back to the question that keeps surfacing in homeschool groups.
So, I’ve put together a list of trusted, independent teachers and microschools who run their own platforms. These programs provide the high-quality learning you’d expect while supporting small businesses instead of a large corporation. Some even accept ESA Funding for Homeschoolers!
The Outschool alternatives I’m sharing below include:
📘 Semester-long homeschool courses
🎥 Live interactive classes
🖥️ Self-paced, asynchronous learning
🛡️ Safe, supportive, teacher-led communities
Every educator on this list is an experienced, highly rated teacher who has taught thousands of students in online education. I’ve personally reviewed these programs, and some are ones I’ve trusted with my own children.
Whether you’re looking for STEM, art, music, writing, history, test prep, lifeskills, or career-focused homeschool curriculum, these platforms are excellent Outschool alternatives worth exploring in 2025.
